HOW TO AVOID EXTINCTION

Science and technology are advancing rapidly. Unfortunately, it is tied to the destruction of the environment and contamination of all the layers of the biosphere. The balance that has been established for millions of years is at the tipping point. Our progress seems to be our doom. May technology be our salvation, though?

This year, we mark the 50th anniversary of man walking on the Moon. What footprint will our generation leave in the Universe? We might find the missing resources on other worlds, we might even colonize them. Unless we lose our ability to reach even the orbit of the Earth because of space debris – a scenario that is far from unimaginable. In any case, we do not have any other planet at the moment. We do not even know of another one that would be nearly as hospitable as the Earth.

Let’s just not lose hope yet. Pessimism will not save anyone. We hope to fill you with techno-optimism at Lucerna gallery, where we have prepared a weekend accompanying programme for you. Come and see how technology can help mitigate
environmental problems and learn what you can do to heal the mother Earth. We have prepared exhibitions, speeches, games and creative workshops, where you can learn about upcycling – creating new stuff from scrap – or watch “Krajinou
domova” by Petr Krejčí.
