If not stated the accompanying programme is for free.

Just like every year, the festival will be accompanied by many exhibitions, lectures, panels, and concerts.

First of the three exhibitions, will be CYBERpunks by Jonáš Ledecký and Michal Suchánek. It will be on display in the Lucerna passage and will have an augmented reality component by Dreadlocks. Freedom in the Future will be a showcase of our fans’ works in the
Lucerna Gallery. The best one will win a Wacom tablet and you can have a say in who that will be.

We will also exhibit photos from Chinese antigovernment protests called Hong Kong 2019.

You can attend a masterclass workshop by Hollywood storyboard artist Kurt van der Basch. Chip Hardy, an author of Taboo – a successful BBC
One show will have a lecture about storytelling possibilities in the age of technological wonder and grimy visions.

You can also attend three panel discussions about cybernetic warfare, freedom in media, or cyberpunk in comics.

Prague Film Orchestra will be in concert in Prague and Brno. Their show will be in memory of Terry Rawlings – the editor of Alien and Blade Runner. Terry died last year and he has a special place in our hearts, as he was our guest in 2016.

Jozef van Wissem a dutch lutenist working with Jim Jarmusch will also be in concert in both Prague and Brno.

We have prepared an exhibition of two leading comic artists for you in the Lucerna passage where they will present their visions about the cyberpunk world. To bring the subject even closer, we have enriched the exhibition with virtual elements that you can bring to life using your smartphones. There is an augmented reality implemented in the pictures that was prepared for the exhibition by creative game studio Dreadlocks.

The inspiration for this year’s festival came at a time when the world was flooded with demonstrations of one of the world’s most modern cities, Hong Kong. The inhabitants of the city went out to the streets to express their disagreement with the forthcoming extradition law.
The response of the police was harsh. During the next six months of either peaceful or violent demonstrations, 6,000 people were arrested by the end of 2019. The exhibition of photographs offers a look back at the development of the demonstrations aimed at the preserving democratic values and principles.

FREEDOM IN FUTURE

Beginning and experienced artists had the opportunity to participate in competitions held together with the manufacturer of graphic tablets Wacom. The assignment was attractive. Create your original artwork on the theme of freedom in the cyberpunk future. The best works will be exhibited at the Lucerna Café during the festival. The expert jury will then select the best work, the author will get a Wacom graphic tablet. The second winner will be decided by the public vote.

Are you an animator, illustrator, storyboarder and movie enthusiast? Then this workshop with a very successful storyboardist Kurt van der Basche is just for you of. His name doesn’t ring a bell to you? And how about “Star Wars: The Last of the Jedi,” “Jupiter Rises,” “The Jurassic World: The Death of the Realm,” “Assassin’s Creed”? Kurt has worked on all these blockbusters and many other great movies. At the Future Gate festival you have the opportunity to participate in his workshop and learn how storyboards are being done in the first league. The workshop will be in English.

Chips Hardy is a British screenwritter (series Taboo). His talk will be about a SciFi as filmic play; where we bend, break and rebuild the structures and rules that hold together our reality. He’ll propose that the rapid social and psychological changes brought on by technology, mean we have never had a richer or darker set of questions to explore about the future and freedom of our species. The talk will be in English.

Composer and lute player
Jozef van Wissem is coming to the Czech Republic again. A lute sound is inherently linked to ancient times, but this Dutchman living in American opens up new horizons to this traditional instrument in his work. Jozef van Wissem left his mark on listeners mainly thanks to the soundtrack for Jim Jarmusch’s film Only Lovers Left Alive. He will present his new album Ex Mortis at the concert in the former baroque
church of St. Mary Magdalene in Malá Strana, today the Czech Museum of Music, and at the Brno Planetarium.

The concert, which falls on the magical date full of twos, will bring the most interesting songs from the sci-fi and fantasy genre again. Part of the program will be dedicated to film editor Terry Rawlings who was the guest of the second edition of the Future Gate Festival. Unfortunately, he passed away this year on April 23rd, but he left behind amazing works like The Phantom of the Opera, Chariots of Fire, Alien, Blade Runner and many more. The first three will be a tribute to this distinguished filmmaker! The Prague Film Orchestra will perform in Brno. It will be a unique concert held in the Brno Observatory and Planetarium enriched with a space projection overhead. More at www.pfo.cz

BE A JEDI!

Trust your instincts and fend off the enemy waves of droids coming for you! Luckily, you have your lightsaber that easily handles enemy blasters. And don’t forget that you can use force as well! And if you want a real challenge, you can have a duel with Darth Vader or Kylo Ren! For all Star Wars fans, there will be a gaming booth in the café where you can become a Jedi Knight for a small fee. Augmented reality borrowed from DV-Production will make it possible.

DROIDS RACE

Try what it’s like to control droids from a distant galaxy with your smartphone. The BB-8 and BB-9E are ready at the starting line and eager to beat our race track. Of course, a race without prizes would not be a race. We have interesting prizes for the three fastest riders. For a symbolic entry fee you will get the opportunity to show what is in you and the chance to win the main prize.

Five years ago he began to animate visual shows of the Let it Roll, Imagination and many other festivals. In cooperation with the XLAB studio he was doing the mapping of the National Museum to the 100th anniversary of Czechoslovakia. Now he works as an environment artist in the DIVR labs game studio on the project combining a real playground with a
