Any video or image can be uploaded to the web via social media. However, this does not mean that all of it also remains there. Tens of thousands of ‘cleaners’ work in secret to make sure users see only approved content. The job of cleaners, hired by companies like Facebook or Google, is to search for and delete objectionable content. They work in secrecy, yet the filmmakers have managed to contact some of the ‘content moderators’ who work in Manila, Philippines. Their experiences include appalling moments of encountering child pornography or records of Islamist murdering. However, a gradual devastation of a moderator‘s psyche is not the only problem of the existence of this profession. Often, content that does not suit to governments of individual countries or gives worrying evidence about the reality of war conflicts is often considered to be defective, too. When does the effort to prevent the spread of evil turn into dangerous censorship?
