The White King will take you into a totalitarian society where only the word of authorities has legitimacy, and the individual is simply nothing. In other words… welcome to a world similar to an Orwellian dystopia.
The story is centered around a boy named Djata, whose father is taken away, not knowing why or where, by government agents. The boy and his mother are labeled as traitors, and the hunt for them begins. Nobody is quite able to tell exactly what his father did. Yet it’s pretty clear that the father’s non-conformist spirit was of inconvenience to the dictatorship.
For those of us who have lived through something similar in recent history, this movie evokes an environment in which all strength and power lie in the hands of those who use it at the expense of others, while the ever-present bullying and unfounded deportations to working camps without a proper trial on a regular basis. This movie isn’t just for those who have lived through such a period though…
