This year’s 11th annual Future Gate science fiction film festival was won by the New Zealand film The Paragon yesterday. The film won the BEST FILM jury award. Below you will find the jury’s comments on the film.
We can watch the winning film at the Art cinema in Brno on October 10.
The winning film proves that even under modest financial conditions, it is possible to make an imaginative, playful work that captivated the jury thanks to its combination of dry humour, brisk storytelling and sympathetically civil acting. What the jury appreciated about this sci-fi revenge comedy was the balanced combination of absurdity and emotional depth within a story that cleverly uses the concept of parallel universes and references to genre conventions and the aesthetics of 1980s sci-fi films.
